Chris Hitchen

NAPF Immediate Past Chairman

Chris is the Chief Executive of rpmi, the pension services company which runs the UK rail industry’s pension arrangements for 350,000 beneficiaries, and provides administration and management services to other schemes and organisations.  He is also Chairman of Railpen Investments, the rpmi subsidiary which acts as in-house investment manager for the Railways Pension Trustee Company’s £17 billion portfolio.

He is a qualified actuary and holds a Mathematics degree from University of Durham.  He is a Trustee Member of NEST, the new UK-wide DC scheme aiming to create new retirement saving, and Chairman of its Investment Committee.  He is the immediate past Chairman of the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF), and a past Chairman of both the NAPF Investment Council and the Institutional Shareholders Committee (ISC).  Before joining Railpen in 1998, Chris was a Principal at Aon Consulting, where he specialised in investment consultancy.

He is married with four children.

Chris Norden joined Bacon & Woodrow in 1990 after a year spent teaching in Kenya, and was a partner in the firm before its merger with Hewitt in 2002. He specialises in providing advice to pension scheme trustees and his clients range from high street retailers to investment banks.

Chris sits on Hewitt's professional standards group. He is also part of the team that sets internal technical guidance, which has been responsible for providing training and consulting tools relating to the new statutory funding regime. He has also been a regular speaker at NAPF training courses.

Chris also chairs the board of trustees of a medium-sized charity.
