During the course we will look at the nature of liabilities and matching assets, the effect of matching and mismatching, and the interaction between funding and investment strategies. To help put this learning into context you might want to review your own scheme's Statement of Funding Principles.

Pre-course reading title page  Moving the focus on to investment matters, as someone who has already acquired the basics of pension fund investment we assume you are familiar with the basic principles of trustee investment. If you need to brush up on this you can read 'Requirements for investment in DB schemes'

We expect you are also able to recognise the range and characteristics of the asset classes generally used by pension schemes. To re-cap please read 'Asset classes refresher'. This will support our sessions on setting investment objectives and the principles, processes and decisions involved. During the day we will also focus on asset allocation and monitoring performance and how trustees can review their approach to investment strategy so you might want to review your scheme's Statement of Investment Principles and its asset allocation.
