New automatic enrolment safeguards

02 July 2012

From Suday 1st July 2012 it will be illegal for employers to coerce or incentivise their employees not to join a pension. Although employers will not have the legal duty to automatically enrol their employees into a pension until their staging dates, the new rules around coercion come into force for all employers on 1st July. It is important to remember that these new rules apply to both new and existing employees. For more information about these new requirements, please visit the Pensions Regulator’s website.

To help employers communicate with their employees about automatic enrolment, the Department for Work and Pensions and the Pensions Regulator have also published a range of templates and tools. Employers can use online tools to pick which template is right for them. Visit the Pensions Regulator’s website to use these tools.
