To highlight the nature of DC pensions and how they are provided in the workplace

Audience:

Trustees of workplace DC schemes who already have an understanding of the principles of trusteeship or who have completed an “Introduction to trusteeship” and an “Introduction to investments”.  The course is also suitable for anyone with the responsibility for overseeing a workplace DC arrangement.

As the number of workplace DC schemes increases and more people become responsible for them Managing DC pensions offers a thorough introduction to the evolving world of DC.  If you are a DC trustee or oversee a contract-based DC arrangement this 1 day course offers you an insight into managing DC pensions. Pitching content to ensure you concentrate on the most relevant facts, this course is also ideal for trustees who have already mastered the basic principles of pension scheme trusteeship but wish to know more about managing a DC pension scheme. 

After this workshop attendees will be able to

  • Identify the range of DC arrangements and providers operating in the UK workplace pensions market and to analyse the main differences
  • Describe the investment options available to scheme managers and members,
  • Explain the choices available to members when active scheme membership ends or when retirement approaches (including the processes attached to purchasing an annuity, open market options and the issue of provider covenant)
  • Identify what is important when selecting/assessing providers and when assessing good scheme administration and governance, including the administration risks involved and the strategies for managing them.
  • Describe the communications which might be sent to members covering the scheme in general, and the investment funds on offer.
