Level 3 Training

Purpose:
To explain how trustees of Defined Benefit (DB) schemes should assess, monitor and take action on the sponsoring employer’s covenant.

Audience:
Trustees of DB pension schemes with a good understanding of their own pension arrangements or those with responsibility for financial matters relating to their pension scheme.

How confident are you that your sponsoring employer’s commitment to your pension scheme has any teeth?  The Employer Covenant helps trustees to identify how to measure the strength of the sponsoring employer’s covenant to the pension scheme.  Taking advantage of practical exercises aimed at identifying when and how to take action when dealing with a sponsoring employer’s financial commitment to the pension scheme, this ½ day workshop is an essential experience for all DB trustees.

After this workshop attendees will be able to

• Explain to others the importance of reviewing the strength of the sponsoring employer’s covenant.
• Describe how the employer’s covenant impacts on funding decisions.
• Assess and monitor employer covenant and state how and where to gain assistance for this activity.
• Identify when and how to take action when dealing with the sponsoring employer’s financial commitment to the pension scheme.
