2007 NAPF Annual Survey

Each year the NAPF carries out a detailed survey amongst its members. The Survey provides schemes and their advisers with an invaluable insight into the pensions market and is a unique benchmarking tool.

The 2007 NAPF Annual Survey is based on answers from more than 500 schemes (331 DB and 208 DC). Collectively, they make pension provision for almost 9 million people in the UK and have total assets of almost £500 billion.

The Survey answers many of the big questions about UK pension provision, such as:

• How do employers with defined benefit schemes expect to change their pension arrangements for new and existing staff?
  
• How is defined contribution pension provision taking shape? How much is being contributed and investment choices are available to DC savers? How do employers communicate with members about the choices they face?
  
• Is payment of trustees becoming the norm? And if so, how much? How common is the use of independent trustees?
  
• How are defined benefit schemes investing thier assets? What changes have been made to their strategic asset allocations over the past year? Is the widely reported move from equities to bonds continuing? Which other asset classes are attracting money from pension funds?
  
• How much does it cost to run a pension scheme?
  
• Where employers already offer good pension schemes, how will they be affected by the requirement to use automatic enrolment from 2012?
