Inside investment

Course aims

A one day, face to face training course which aims to discuss the issue of funding a defined benefit pension scheme from the perspective of:

  • the sponsoring employer
  • the trustees
  • the scheme actuary

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course participants will:

  • be able to identify what influences pension scheme investment and funding decisions
  • recognise what risks are involved in funding and investment decision making
  • recognise the fact that key decision makers may have different aims and strategies for scheme funding and be aware of the effect of these on the decision making process
  • be familiar with the steps that may be taken to reconcile opposing views
  • be aware of the issues which may be considered by all parties interested in reducing the extent to which the pension scheme is exposed to risk

Target audience

Finance directors, managers and trustees and anyone responsible for making decisions on behalf of the sponsoring employer

Attendance at this course will help trustees to comply with units 1, 4, 6, 12 and 13 of the Pensions Regulator’s TKU scope guidance for trustees of DB schemes.
